When Italians came to Hanoi they brought their food. Several upscale Italian restaurants are scattered throughout the city and Il Grillo is said to be the daddy of them all. They claim to import "everything" from the mother country. Starters include a fresh buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad and a plate of cold cuts. Homemade pastas topped with fresh tomatoes and a generous drizzle of olive oil, or with the more complex porcini mushroom sauce, will not fail to excite. Meat-eaters can sink their teeth into the thick filetto. Italian wine, of course, is the beverage of choice.
