Overview

This memorial was unveiled by Sir Ninian Stephens (former Governor General of Australia) in 1983, and is dedicated to all those who fought in the siege of Tobruk in 1941. A giant, glimmering bronze flame set between battlement-shaped stones, the memorial represents defensive soldiers set up against the enemy, along the coastline at Tobruk. A time capsule was laid in 1991 at the foot of the memorial to mark the 50th anniversary of the siege of Tobruk.
