Risdon Cove was the site of the first white settlement in Tasmania in 1803. Previously the land had belonged to the Moomairremener people, who were cast out in a most savage and brutal manner. The Aboriginal community met at Risdon Cove in 1992, determined to win back their land. In 1995, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Council returned Risdon Cove to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land Council and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Center now administers it.
