Mr Tulk is the State Library's on site cafe which offers a casual dining experience in a 19th-century setting. The cafe has been named after Mr Augustus Henry Tulk, who was the first Chief Librarian in 1856, and who worked to build the Library's collection. For breakfast there is toast, porridge, pastries etc, while lunch has baguettes, toasted flat breads and an ever-changing list of kitchen specials. Lighter snacks include olives, fried potatoes, pizza by the slice, meatballs in sugo and battered sardines with salsa verde. The drinks menu includes coffee, juices, milkshakes, beer, spirits and wines. The cafe is an eclectic mix of heritage surroundings with dark wood tables, cafe chairs and modern furnishings, tall windows that create an inviting place. A long table and stools in the center remind one of the reading table in a library.
