Basement (The), Sydney

One of the country's foremost clubs for jazz, acoustic, folk, funk, blues, world and soul live music, this place was renovated and re-launched in 1992 with an adventurous regular line-up of local and international musicians. There are cabaret-style tables close to the stage or an elevated bar at the back. It has functional decor, with wood paneling and unattractive carpeting. If you are not looking for live music there is an admission-free bar and Mediterranean style bistro serving snacks and supper. Weekdays 4:30p-6:30p is happy hour so it is popular for after-work drinks. Performances are held 9:30p onwards.
