Overview
The historic Mint in Sydney is known to be built between 1811 and 1816 when it was known as the Rum Hospital. However in 1851, the gold rush in New South Wales led to a rampant black market situation which threatened the value of Australia's official currency. This prompted the setting up of The Mint in 1854. Presently, this building houses the main office of the Historic Houses Trust (HHT) and sees hordes of visitors flock here each day to enjoy a cup of coffee and catch a few glimpses of an era gone by.
