Tokonoma Shochu Bar and Lounge sits alongside its Surry Hills parent eatery, Toko, as a complementary addition. While the restaurant has focused on bringing a new level of Japanese cuisine to Sydney, the bar is a homage to the Japanese liquor known as shochu. Not well known in Australia, it’s a drink for the in-crowd in its native land; distilled from barley and buckwheat and usually infused with herbs or fruit. The house-infused shochu is palate-friendly enough to be enjoyed on its own, or equally as delicious in one of the many unique cocktails available.
