Vamps Bistro, Sydney

Every inch a classic bistro, this tiny French restaurant has been wowing Paddington diners since 1983 and is as popular as ever. Owners Tony and Veronique have turned a Victorian terrace house into a comforting and inviting space evoking their homeland. The menu reads like a glossary of classic French dishes, with snails in garlic butter, pate and French onion soup featured on the list of starters, while duck a l'orange and steak with bearnaise sauce head up the hearty mains. Come dessert time you may be hard pressed to make a choice between crepes Suzette, creme brulee or tarte au citron (lemon tart).
