With Unitec Marae - Te Noho Kotahitanga, renowned Māori artist - Lyonel Grant has successfully blended the traditional methods and contemporary techniques to build the Māori's meeting place known as Marae. The structure is replete with carvings made on stones and woods, which holds up the structure. The intricate weaving work decorating the area between poupou and the kakaho panels are created by talented fiber artists Judy Hohaia and Shona Tawhiao. Built as a community space, the Marae is used for ceremonies, celebrations and other cultural events throughout the year. Walk in to get a glimpse of the Māori tribes artistic and cultural inclinations.
