First planted in 1860, the small, suburban, Abberley Park, was originally a private garden of some grandeur. Bought by the city in 1939, the park has a children's playground, fenced paddling pool, a fountain and a scented garden. About five minutes' drive from the city centre, the park, with its fine mature trees and short walking tracks and is ideal for family picnics. Those who are visually impaired will enjoy the wonderful fragrances of the scented garden, which is at its best in spring and summer.
