Overview
High on a hill, overlooking the seaside suburb of Sumner, are the remarkable biblical-themed, privately-owned Gethsemane Gardens. With stunning views of the city, the ocean and the alps, the three hectares of immaculate gardens are testimony to the owners' faith and love of gardening. The garden's delights include the Jerusalem garden, depicting the life of Jesus, the Noah's Ark garden, with animal figures, the prayer garden, the rosary maze, the Mount of Olives, and a small chapel where weddings are held. Visitors need their own transport to visit Gethsemane, a 20-minute drive from the city center. The more adventurous could climb the steep hill from Sumner below, about a half-hour walk.
