Overview

This easy two hour walk to an old airstrip, through farmland and bush, passes several World War II munition magazines (some of the 62 to be found in the area). As you climb towards the airstrip, views of Pauatahanui Inlet and beyond are visible. You pass the officers' mess (an old brick building now converted to shearer's quarters) and the woolshed, before reaching the airstrip. The track loops for the return journey to the carpark. There are no picnic facilities provided but opportunities are everywhere.
