Overview
Lake Wairarapa spreads over 70 square kilometers from the eastern side of the Rimutaka Ranges. It is relatively shallow, with an average depth of little over a metre. Canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and duck hunting (in season) are some of the many popular pastimes enjoyed on the lake. With plenty of campsites, picnic spots and wildlife reserve land to explore, this lake is worth the one and a half hour's travel. Better still stay a few nights.
