Halifax OVERVIEW
Halifax is a little city with a lot of heart. Some 400,000 people call
Halifax home, but it maintains a small-town feel, thanks to the
friendliness of the locals and the ease of navigating the city. As the
biggest city in the Maritimes (and the capital of Nova Scotia), Halifax
lacks nothing. This city has fine dining, lots of shopping, stellar
nightlife and plenty of attractions to keep every age of tourist
entertained—and it's an attractive city to boot.
Halifax has a rich history, and walking along the harbour front (right
downtown) you’ll see buildings that have been around since the 18th
century nestled amongst hip urban coffee shops. From the historic
Halifax Citadel, you can see much of the city, and get a feel for how
much charm and beauty there is packed into a relatively low surface
area. You’ll also get a feel for how green the area is—there are lots of
parks, beaches and trails to explore.
The population is eclectic: With seven degree-granting institutions in

who come to study at NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design), then
fall in love with the city and never leave. There’s a vibrant theatre
scene and TV/movie industry — with the “Trailer Park Boys” being the
city’s favorite sons — and a huge military population. You’ll meet all
sorts in this fun-loving destination and likely clink a glass with them
at one of the many pubs here. Halifax has more bars per capita than any
other city in Canada. See Less
