Montreal Pop Culture

Montréal has been featured in an incredible number of films. You’ll find familiar scenes in The Jackal, The Whole Nine Yards, The Score, Blades of Glory and Mambo Italiano, just to name a few. Many more movies, including Catch Me If You Can, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, The Aviator, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the second Night at the Museum, were also shot or largely shot in the city. Writers Naomi Klein (No Logo), Yann Martel (Life of Pi), poet Anne Carson and Mordecai Richler (The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz) are some of the better known scribes to call the city home. Many Richler books are set around Mile End, where he grew up. Big musical names from Celine Dion to Rufus Wainright, Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre, Stars, Wolf Parade and Leonard Cohen have all had a home in or near the city at various stages of their careers.
