In the heart of Little Italy, on its most bustling street of St. Laurent, resides a modest-looking coffee joint called Caffè Italia. But don’t let appearances fool you. This is the real deal, with sumptuously brewed espressos made with Italian coffee brands. Inside, you’ll find solid wood tables, an often older crowd of Italian-Canadians, big-screen TVs to watch soccer, and a selection of sandwiches that include prosciutto, capicollo or mortadella. No mixed-up identities here, it’s truly a taste of Italy. Caffè Italia opened its doors in 1956, and when you enter through them, the 50s won’t seem that far away.
