Cows is a small chain of ice cream shops with less than a dozen locations throughout Canada. The Niagara-on-the-Lake location, which is open seasonally May to October, is the only one in Ontario. Since the first Cows opened in 1983 in Prince Edward Island, Canada, it has gained the reputation of providing Canada’s best ice cream. They produce over 32 varieties of ice cream at their headquarters in Prince Edward Island, using an old-fashioned secret recipe that uses all natural ingredients, like fresh cream, real eggs, sugar, and add-ins like fresh berries and imported cocoa. They use cream with a very high butterfat content (16 percent) and mix it slowly so it has very little air. This process makes the ice cream very creamy and dense, which allows it to melt slowly in your mouth. Ice cream is served in a hand-made waffle cone. In addition to ice cream, Cows also sells a line of T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, mugs, towels, and more, all with colorful cows on them.
