This building was the first building in Ontario to be designed and built specifically to house a museum. Built in 1906, the museum has an extensive collection of early Canadian artifacts; it is considered one of Ontario's most important collections. There are over 40,000 documents, 8000 artifacts, and 2500 photos housed in three main exhibit spaces, with both permanent and temporary exhibits. Of special interest is the museum's interactive computer program, which has images of the thousands of items housed in the museum's archives. A children's guide to the museum is available to help kids get more out of their visit. The museum also offers a variety of special events, programs and lectures throughout the year. The museum's opening hours vary seasonally, call ahead or check website to know more.
