Situated within a historic Neo-classic structure constructed in 1889, the Museo de La Plata is a natural science museum with a collection of more than three million. The museum is divided into various sections of which a major part is dedicated to the origin of the solar system and earth, and biological and geological evolution on earth. The museum also houses fossils of mammals belonging to the Pampean Ages and archaeological and ethnographic collections that showcase the cultural development of Latin America from pre-historic era to the Inca Empire. There are rooms dedicated to entomology, botany and zoology as well as a library that contains books and other archived materials.
