Teatro Argentino de la Plata, Buenos Aires

One of the most impressive and busy theaters in Argentina is not found in Buenos Aires, but in the small suburb of La Plata, just a few miles south of the capital. Built in the latter years of the 1800s, this magnificent building was one of the most beautiful theaters in all of South America.  In 1977, the structure suffered a disastrous fire which almost burned everything to the ground.  At the time the government demolished the remains and it was not until 1999, over two decades later that the new, modern Teatro Argentino de la Plata opened its doors to the public. The new theater once again is one of the most popular in South America and hosts a variety of events from ballet, opera, concerts and more.
