Adega Timao, Rio de Janeiro

A traditional bar at the heart of Rio's cultural quarter, Adega Timao is handily located behind the impressive cultural center, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. And while the colonial building and nautical decor recall seafaring days of yore, the modern menu makes this bar one of a growing number of places to enjoy tapas in Rio. A decent selection of the Spanish-style small eats are on offer, of which the squid in garlic is a standout. The draft beer is good, and the pleasant location makes this a good option for a relaxing drink and a light meal after a day browsing the nearby galleries. -Lucy Bryson
