Amadeus, Rio de Janeiro

The beachside neighborhood of Recreio is better known for its sunbathing and surf than its fine dining, but Amadeus is one spot that delivers consistently good food and excellent service. As befits the seaside location, fish here is particularly delicious–try the baked cod with potato, spinach, garlic and olive oil. Meat-lovers will not be disappointed either, with an in-house barbecue/carvery serving up countless delicious cuts. Another favorite order is the duck risotto with sliced sausage and bacon. The restaurant is a firm favorite among locals as well as out-of-towners fresh from a day at the beach. - Lucy Bryson
