Asdrubal's, Rio de Janeiro

Botafogo is increasingly gaining a reputation as the place to come for interesting independent bars, and Asdrubal's is a case in point. The beer - of which there are nearly 45 types - is the main attraction, with everything from Irish Guinness (R$15 for 500ml) to the Brazilian Eisenbahn Lust, made in the German-settled south of the country to a recipe that uses the same fermentation process as Champagne. At R$57, it should taste as good as champers too! There's nightly live music here, and on Sundays customers can enjoy a traditional Brazilian feijoada to the sound of samba and chorinho. - Lucy Bryson
