Tree-lined Rua Dias Ferreira is fast becoming the culinary heart of upscale Ipanema, with so many chic restaurants that visitors with a healthy travel budget could eat out here every night for a fortnight without ever having to dine at the same place twice. Brigite's, which opened in February 2012, is another attractive addition to the busy street's dining scene. Chef Ludmilla Soeira has created a contemporary menu that includes excellent starters such as duck croquettes with a horseradish sauce and asparagus and green bean tempura, both of which come perfectly crisp and light. Of the mains, the seared cod with egg and fries is a whole lot more elegant than it may sound, while the brownie filled with white chocolate is among the many tempting dessert options. The wine list is not huge, but it has some gems including an excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. -Lucy Bryson
