Castelo do Vinho, Rio de Janeiro

Wine-lovers, prepare to be dazzled. This vast, glittering building in the style of a medieval castle is a celebration of all things vinho-related. The lavish four-story building is divided into a wine store and restaurant, and the sheer number of bottles on offer is as mind-blowing as the decor. The store imports wines in all price brackets from around the world, as well as selling a good range of Brazilian bottles, while the restaurant serves classic Portuguese dishes. The wine list, it goes without saying, is nothing if not extensive. It lies some way off the tourist trail but, if you take your wine seriously, Castelo do Vinho is well worth the bus ride. -Lucy Bryson
