Leblon's chic elite like nothing more than to see and be seen, and this bar and restaurant in the heart of the wealthy beach neighborhood is a prime spot to sip a drink, nibble on some antipasti and watch Rio de Janeiro's beautiful people at play. The pavement tables and chairs are much sought after during the balmy summer months, and create the perfect setting for pre-dinner cocktails from the extensive list. The Italian chef here, Tulio Colonese, has created a list of classic Italian dishes, and prices are reasonable given the fashionable location. Starting at around BRL45, good mains include some delicious pastas, stuffed with everything from apple and gorgonzola to basil pesto and pine nuts, as well as hearty slices of grilled meat or fish. For the adventurous, the quail stuffed with mushroom and maracuja (passion fruit) may be one to try. Meanwhile, the simple Italian Tiramisuis a safe bet among the desserts, while the tart of coffee and mascarpone cheese is also indulgently good. -Lucy Bryson
