Don Giorgio Pasta, Rio de Janeiro

Rio's shopping malls are surprisingly good spots to find above-average food, and this 2012 opening in the upmarket Shopping da Gavea mall is a great example. Don Giorgio Pasta serves, as the name suggests, a range of pasta options, but it is the pizza that is the real star of the menu. These stone-baked beauties have crisp, perfectly thin bases and serve two hungry diners. To whet customers' appetites, crunchy slices of pizza branca (a pizza base with olive oil, parmesan and rosemary) are handed out on the house as soon as diners take their seats. One of the top choices among the pizza options is the Don Giorgio, with Parma ham, shiitake mushroom, and arugula complementing the tomato sauce and cheese. -Lucy Bryson
