Fennel, Rio de Janeiro

Located within the beachfront Arena Copacabana Hotel, Fennel is open to non-guests and is one of the better restaurant options along the seafront strip. The restaurant specializes in contemporary, sophisticated fare, with head chef Eduardo Sousa drawing on influences from India and France. Brazilian and African influences are added to the culinary mix too, making for interesting dishes such as beef tenderloin with a potato crust, accompanied by a sweet potato puree and fennel sauce. There is a resident pastry chef, who makes some delicious sweet and savory treats for a leisurely breakfast or afternoon snack. -Lucy Bryson
