The affluent, sprawling suburb of Barra da Tijuca is sometimes referred to by Rio locals as the Únited States of Barra, so it's fitting that this neighborhood should be the location for this US-themed diner. Named after the legendary John Walter Scott, who provided alcohol to American speakeasies during the Prohibition Era, the restaurant serves burgers, ribs, steaks, chicken wings and the like in more than generous portions. Johnnie Pepper is not an ideal destination for vegetarians, but does cater well for families—there is a special kids'menu, and games and puzzles are provided to younger diners. A meal here makes a good pit stop during a trawl around Barra da Tijuca's many, many shopping malls.
