Niteroi, Rio's sister city across Guanabara Bay, may lose out to Rio in the glamor stakes, but it does have plenty to offer the visitor. A case in point is this splendid neoclassical building, which today functions as a museum and art gallery. Permanent exhibits include works from Burle Marx and Di Calvacante, among others, as well as an impressive display of carved wooden statues. The building, which dates back to 1860, also houses beautiful antique furnishings and precious porcelain works.
