Walking south along the Copacabana beach, you will find this large unlikely fortress jutting out to sea. This outpost with its faded green cannons and thick walls has been a landmark since 1914. The Museu Histórico do Exército was established in this historical site in 1987. The exhibits give a glimpse into the military history of Brazil between 1500-1889 and 1906-1940. There are regular cultural events as well that take place here. The cafes serve some great pastries, snacks and coffee while the on-site store offers souvenirs that are worth buying.
