Don't confuse the name of this restaurant with the Portuguese word 'não', meaning 'no'. Nao takes its name from acclaimed head chef Nao Hara, who has put together a menu of elegantly presented and wonderfully light Japanese-inspired dishes, making it a big hit with models, actors and other body-conscious and image-conscious types. It's handily located on the terrace of one of Rio's designer clothing centers too, so shoppers can refuel as they shop 'til they drip. Portions are small, so you might want to try a few from the taster menu, although prices are on the high side at BRL90 for four items. However, the setting is as elegant as the dishes. Therefore, if you want to nibble on delicacies, such as semi-grilled salmon with shitaake mushrooms, and salmon eggs in beautiful surrounds and surrounded by beautiful people, this is your place. - Lucy Bryson
