Mexican food is only now starting to make a real impact on Rio de Janeiro's restaurant scene, but El Pallomar has been serving up tasty tacos and tortillas for over a decade. The laid-back restaurant avoids the theme bar vibe of some Mexican spots in the city, and is a rather more subtle affair. Traditional favorites include burritos, nachos and other spicy delights, while those opting for the fajitas can choose their own fillings from options such as meat, chicken, cheese, beans and salads. If you just can't decide between the choices on offer, the Rodizio Mexicano (all you can eat for a set price) may be the best option, but be sure to come here with a hearty appetite if you want to make the most of it. Try and grab a table on the deck on balmy evenings, for lovely views over Tijuca National Park. -Lucy Bryson
