Admirers of nature and adventure will enjoy climbing this 2769-foot (844 meter) mountain from which one has an impressive view of the city and the beaches below. Pedra da Gávea was named for its shape, resembling a gávea (the topsail of a ship). Visitors can either walk on the trails or choose a guided tour to reach the summit. There are some inscriptions on the rocks and a lot of controversy over whether or not they are from civilizations past.
