Plano B, Rio de Janeiro

Blink and you'll miss the oh-so-discreet entrance to this weird and wonderful venue in the heart of Lapa, Rio's slightly seedy party district. It's well worth taking the time to search the place out, however, as Plano B offers one of the most eclectic (and eccentric) musical mixes to be found anywhere in the city. The DJs are encouraged to indulge their every musical whim, and as such you might here heavy rock and 70s pyschedelia merging seamlessly into vintage MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira, Brazilian pop music) or even a spot of African jazz. Plano B attracts some interesting live bands, too, with two performances every Wednesday and Thursday. The first session takes place from 19:00-21:00, the second from 22:00 until midnight. -Lucy Bryson
