By day, this public space in front of the famous Arcos do Lapa (Lapa Aquaduct) is a down-at-heel gathering point for some of Lapa's interesting characters. By night, however, the scene changes dramatically. The flagstones fill up with street vendors selling alcohol in all manner of incarnations, while food stalls offer plenty of opportunity to soak up the booze. While handfuls of locals and tourists mill around here on weeknights, come on the weekend, as it is absolutely packed with people, the main hub of activity for the legendary Lapa street party. Occasional live music performances attract even more revelers.
