Teatro Carlos Gomes is famous for hosting experimental plays and avant-garde dance performances. When it opened its doors in 1872 with just basic facilities, it was called Franc-Brésiliene Theatre. Later, it was called Santana Theatre and finally, Teatro Carlos Gomes. Today, it seats over 760 people and has the latest sound and lighting equipment. With three floors and three foyers in Art Deco style, covered in chips and a floor of marble, the theater is very pleasing to the eye. Call ahead for hours.
