Overview

The recent redeveloplment of Praça Tiradentes, a square at the heart of downtown Rio, has made this once down-at-heel area an attraction for tourists once again. At the centrer of the square is the oldest statue in Rio, which is an arresting monument to Dom Pedro I, on horseback and holding his sword aloft. The statue was designed by Brazilian Maximiliano Mafro and is localized in the center of Rio de Janeiro. At the middle of the square you can see the monument of D. Pedro I, designed by Maximiliano Mafra and was constructed by the constructed by the acclaimed French sculptor Louis Rochet. - Lucy Bryson
