One of very few meat and dairy-free restaurants in Rio, Vegan Vegan offers an excellent lunch buffet that could tempt even the most dedicated of carnivores. Alongside soups and salads are various products made with tofu, mushrooms and soya, all devised by owner and nutritionist Thina Izidora. The real star on the menu is the vegetarian version of Feijoada, a classic Brazilian dish traditionally made with black beans and various types of meat. Served on Wednesdays and Saturdays, here it is made with black beans, smoked tofu, and shiitake and shimeji mushrooms, and served with brown rice. Lighter bites include delicious falafel made with hearts of palm.
