Venda Mineira, Rio de Janeiro

The full name of this Botafogo cafe/deli is Venda Mineira Cafes e Outras Delicias, and here you'll find coffees and gourmet treats, many of which have been imported from the Minas Gerais region of Brazil. Minas Gerais is famous for its cheese, and there are some good versions on offer here, which work well with a nice glass of red from the wine list. Should it be a little early in the day for wine, the breakfasts, which combine Pao de Queijo (traditional Minas cheese breads) with guava conserve, cheese, ham, orange juice and coffee are decent value at less than BRL17. There are plenty of treats available to take home too, and many of the gourmet goodies make good presents for folks back home. -Lucy Bryson
