For many groups of partiers heading for a night out in Lapa, the evening wouldn't be complete without stopping for something to eat and/or drink at Victor. This spacious bar/restaurant enjoys a prime spot on Rua Riachuelo, Lapa's main thoroughfare, and stays open until the wee small hours at weekends. Choose from basic bar snacks, sandwiches or something more substantial (there are daily meat, chicken or fish dishes, typically served with rice, black beans and fries), and wash it down with a chill beer. By day, Victor does a good lunch trade with local workers, who queue up to pile their plates high at the buffet. - Lucy Bryson
