Built in 1815, this church evokes the neo-classical art of the 19th century. The names of the victims of the armed conflict are engraved on the columns surrounding the porch. Behind the marble high altar stands the choir. The image of the Virgen del Perpetuo Socorro is its most outstanding feature. It is the oldest image in Guatemala and it was brought into the country by Hernan Cortés in 1522. El Sagrario is better known as Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral).
