Overview
Iglesia de La Merced is a beautiful church located close to the Plaza Mayor. This architectural masterpiece was originally built in 1534, and it was here that Lima heard her First mass. However, since then, it has been the victim of earthquakes and fire accidents, which have caused it to be rebuilt several times. The church has a beautiful neoclassical altar dedicated to the Virgin of Mercy, it also has a carven figure of Saint Michael the Archangel and a beautiful silver Cross. Also the church is known to be flocked daily by the devotees of Padre Urraca—a 17th-century local priest.
