Overview
In the 18th Century, Viceroy Manuel de Amat, who had a passion for architecture, started to draw up plans for the construction of this plaza. Inaugurated in 1766, it is considered to be the oldest in America. Originally, it was octagonal in shape, but due to seismic movements and other factors, it was modified to its present circular shape. At the entrance, there is a bullfighting museum, one of the most important of its kind, which exhibits bullfighters' costumes, donated by famous bullfighters. Between October and November, there is a fair, 'Feria Taurina del SeƱor de los Milagros', one of the most famous in the continent.
