The Instituto Nacional de Parques de Venezuela (Venezuelan National Parks Institute) renders an extraordinary and titanic service, responsible as it is for the use and maintenance of the forty-nine existing national parks in Venezuela, which include mountains, plains, forests, savannah, islands and coastal districts.Four national parks are to be found in the state of Mérida alone; they are the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de La Culata, Páramo Nacional La Mucuy and Tapo Caparo Park respectively. In each one of them there is one or several INPARQUES offices to provide all the information that you may require and to grant excursion permissions when necessary. The main office of the institute is to be found in the city of Mérida itself.
