Overview
Occupying the south side of the Plaza Bolívar, this construction was initiated in 1956 and inaugurated in 1958 as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Mérida. It is the work of the architect Manuel Mujica Millán, and has some impressive sections such as the Salón de Recepciones or Reception Hall, and the Salón de Sesiones Legislativas or Legislative Assembly. The works of art and relics it houses are equally outstanding, and include oil paintings, carved wooden furniture, murals and other objects of great artistic and historical value.
