The favorite state of the "Styrian Prince", Archduke Johann, is supposed to have been beautiful Tyrol and its countless mountains. It was a paradise for that passionate mountaineer and natural scientist. After having come under suspicion for treason, however, further visits were forbidden to him. The Steiermark region became a second home for this man who was well-appreciated for his generous deeds. The fountain on the Hauptplatz was constructed in his honor. The four female figures in the statue represent four rivers: Mur, Enns, Drau and Sann.
