Cafe Gritsch, Innsbruck

Cafe Gritsch following a renovation in 1999, basks in a snazzy new image. The dated, bulky and decadent image of former times was replaced with an airy, aesthetic interpretation of the venerable Austrian coffeehouse, featuring light parquet flooring and ingenious lighting, particularly effective in the bar area. The formula is simply faultless : excellent coffee, typical Austrian cakes and tarts and international newspapers to cater for the coffee drinker's intellectual hunger. Hot meals are served and the bar-man makes excellent cocktails. Every now and then, jazz evenings are held here. For a real early morning treat, try ordering champagne with your breakfast.
