Ischgl, located 1376 meters above sea level, has about 1600 inhabitants and is primarily known as a very busy vacation resort with great nightlife and après-ski parties. This literally starts with the legendary Ischgl Opening event each season. There are also the famous Top of the Mountain concerts: pop stars such as Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart or Elton John have played open-air concerts on the Idalp mountain, 2487 meters above sea level. In terms of skiing, Ischgl offers an area with 42 ski-lift facilities and about 200 kilometers of groomed pistes. Snowboarders get their share as well; there is a permanent, natural half-pipe and a large obstacle area (30 obstacles in total.) Snowboarders all over the world probably know Ischgl anyway, at least because of the many international contests, such as the Nokia-FIS Snowboard World Cup. For those who need a break from the hustle and bustle and the exciting parties every now and then, there's the Silvretta area close by, a perfect region for peaceful and quiet ski hikes or snow-shoe trips, with many inviting deep-snow slopes.
