Rinn has 1200 inhabitants and is located on a beautiful plateau in the south of Innsbruck. Around the soft hills and slopes of this area, the majestic Tyrolean mountains are towering. Although Innsbruck is only 10 kilometers away, Rinn is situated much higher, at 1000 meters above sea level; there is usually much snowfall especially in this region, which makes the local 20km of cross-country skiing runs (including skating runs) quite secure. The skiing areas closest to Rinn are the Patscherkofel and the Glungezer regions, two versatile skiing areas featuring both comfortable ski-lifts with groomed pistes of all difficulties and untouched slopes for ski-hiking and snow-shoe trips. There is also a natural toboggan run leading down to the valley from the Rinner Alm. There is a guided, nightly lantern trip through Rinn and its immediate surroundings, where old legends and myths are told and explained.
